Building bridges for a sustainable society

Sustainability

The plan is ambitious: by 2030, the global community wants to end global poverty, reduce inequality and discrimination, promote sustainable economic growth, including in poor countries, and find lasting solutions to environmental problems.

With the SOS Children's Villages programs, we are making an active national and international contribution to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These are a call from the United Nations to combat poverty, protect the planet and ensure peace and prosperity for all by 2030. These goals have been adopted by all UN member states - including Liechtenstein.

Mother and child program Liechtenstein and Switzerland: One of around 2,800 programs

One of our four national programs for Liechtenstein and neighboring Switzerland should be mentioned here as an example. This program is for mothers who have suffered mental illness as a result of the birth and/or their new life situation as a mother (e.g. traumatic birth experience, postpartum depression). After careful clarification, we cover the additional costs for the hospital stay of the child/children for families who cannot afford this.

In this way, we avoid a traumatizing prolonged separation of mother and infant and the resulting break in bonding.

Rapid treatment means that mothers can once again look after their babies, take on an active role in society and return to work.

At SOS Children's Villages, our programs contribute to the well-being of children, the strengthening of local communities, the promotion of environmental sustainability, access to education and medical care and the reduction of social inequalities.
